Youngblood Hawke – ride the gamewave

FIFA13 is out, and with it a new soundtrack with at least 3 or 4 tracks from unknown bands who will get a career boost out of it. Youngblood Hawke represent with their lyrics and beats in  “We came running” the speed and power of soccer in a overly pleasent and happy way.

The band’s name origins from a brilliant novel by Herman Wouk, a story of a young writer caught up in the glamour and intrigue of “life at the top” in New York. Now the interviews and videos, the style and their live sessions all support this non-commercial theme in a almost too perfect way, so it is valid to ask how much genuine indie-soul and grounded thinking is in the band, when it is supported on the best selling game series on earth… and more important, it’s not like some newbies are experimenting with music and having luck. 2 members already had success in 2008 under the name “Iglu&Hartly”.

Mix two parts MGMT, one part fun, serve chilled. Or more precisely: dance beats, children’s choirs, and peppy guitars are popping up all over the place. In lesser hands, it would be a total mess. In Martin and Katz’s, the main composers of the band, however, it approaches very charming, yet poppy. Decide for yourself, watch the clip and listen to their FULL streamed EP in the link below.
